Eligibility, Rules, & Requirements
1. Applicant must be: (i) a high school senior; (ii) residing in South Central Wisconsin; (iii) enrolled in and attending a public, private, or charter school within the State of Wisconsin; (iv) on track to graduate in Spring 2024; and (v) planning to start a four-year degree program, concentrating in vocal music, in the Fall of 2024.
2. All applications must be submitted online through this website. Complete application packages will include: (i) the online application form; (ii) a resumé; and (iii) a short bio (200 words or less), for inclusion in the competition program. Applicants will receive a confirmation email within one week of submission, confirming his/her application status. Only complete applications will be considered.
3. The 2024 competition is limited to a maximum of 10 applicants. Applicants will be assigned a performance slot for the final round of competition on a first come, first served basis.
4. The final round of competition will take place on April 27, 2024—at Trinity Episcopal Church, 409 E. Court St. in Janesville—in front of a live audience. A pianist will be provided to all finalists for one rehearsal as well as their performance in the final round of the competition. Finalists must use the pianist provided by the competition. Finalists are not permitted to use their own pianist.
5. Finalists must prepare and perform two contrasting selections from the Classical and/or Musical Theatre style(s). Repertoire selections must be with piano accompaniment; other accompanied or unaccompanied selections are not permitted. Repertoire must be performed from memory. A total of approximately 10 minutes are allotted for each audition.
6. A panel of three music professionals—consisting of the Chordhawks’ Music Director, Assistant Director, and one guest judge—will adjudicate the competition. Finalists will be evaluated on both the quality of his/her performance, as well as the strength of his/her application. Judges will announce their decision at the conclusion of the final round. Judges’ decisions are final. All finalists will receive written feedback from each of the judges after the competition.
7. Three winners will be selected—First Place, Second Place, Third Place. All winners will perform in The Patriotic Concert with members of The Badger Chordhawks Chorus in June/July 2024.
